There is a theory that everyone is a mirror for us. What I am referring to here is Carl Jung's concept of the 'psychological mirror.' Jung believed that the people we encounter in life reflect aspects of our own unconscious back to us, and that these relationships help us to better understand and integrate our shadow (the unconscious aspects of ourselves that we reject or are unaware of). In this way, our interactions with others can serve as opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery.
And as much as that is true, it isn’t that simple.
The mirror actually has three sides and a center:
1. On one side stands you in your current limitation. Generally this is an unhealthy belief that needs to move into the light of awareness so that it can be extinguished or transmuted.
2. On the second side is another who is reflecting your limitation through conflict or drama. This person is reflecting a shadow aspect of you. At the same time, you are also reflecting a shadow back to that person as you are both struggling within limited beliefs. Thus the mirror theory.
3. On the third side is all that exists on the worldly plane. This side will either support and reinforce or deny and free your unconscious drama story through choice. This can be people, newspapers, books, etc. As we live in duality, we are constantly subjected to matter that supports our freedom or supports our struggle.
4. Within the inner dimension of this triangle is our witness - our soul - our original self - our complete unaltered awareness. This aspect of self is what is guiding the opportunity to move beyond and heal the shadow. It is the source of knowing and dreaming.
The secret to recognizing these mirrors lies in the witnessing of the process from this inner space of awareness - the center of the mirror triangle.
From awareness of our original non-separate self, we are conscious of our edges, shadows, limitations and desires to grow and experience life in ease, grace, joy. love and abundance.
From here, we can witness all aspects and plays of duality without judgment or shame. In this state we are observing from a state of oneness, the space of non-duality, unconditional love.
We are essentially an unattached observer of everything happening within the mirror triangle. When we move into this space with love, compassion and curiosity, we witness the mirrors’ intended opportunities. Opportunities to allow ourselves to dive deep into the lesson and come out the other side free of struggle. The crowning purpose of this triangle gift is to be liberated from an unconscious belief system.
